Newark, NJ – With no action on the ice Sunday, it was quiet around the NHL. There was still plenty to take away from the opening weekend of the Stanley Cup Final, however. In today’s Devils Daily, the Golden Knights crack the Panthers code, Pittsburgh’s focus this offseason, a promising Avalanche prospect, Orlov’s possible return to Washington, and more.

Sportsnet: Between the second and third periods of Saturday night’s Stanley Cup Final, Sportsnet Insider Elliotte Friedman states he’s heard the Devils may trade defenseman Damon Severson’s rights before he hits free agency on July 1st.
Stanley Cup Final
Vegas Hockey Now: After just one game, the Stanley Cup Final is far from over. However, the Golden Knights have begun to understand what most couldn’t in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Stick it to Matthew Tkachuk and how to beat Sergei Bobrovsky.
Florida Hockey Now: The Panthers certainly had their chances in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final. However, Adin Hill stood quite strong in the Golden Knights crease, including an incredible highlight reel save against Nick Cousins.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: New President of Hockey Operations of the Penguins, Kyle Dubas, and head coach, Mike Sullivan, appear to agree on how to handle primary changes in Pittsburgh’s future. One of the main things they’ll be looking for that the roster lacked last season is speed.
Colorado Avalanche
Colorado Hockey Now: Avalanche forward Nikolai Kovalenko has been lighting it up in the KHL. Kovalenko won’t likely cross over to North America until at least 2024, but when he finally does, will his skills translate to the NHL?
Washington Capitals
Washington Hockey Now: Former Capitals defenseman, Dmitry Orlov, is on the record stating he’s looking forward to hitting free agency on July 1st for the first time. Orlov is also on the record stating he and his agent will explore a return to Washington where he’d like to sign long-term and retire.
Calgary Flames
Calgary Hockey Now: Flames forward Mikael Backlund is set to hit free agency. However, his desire is to stay in Calgary. Backlund’s agent, J.P. Barry disclosed that Backlund and new Flames general manager Craig Conroy are set to meet face-to-face this week.
Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo Hockey Now: Sabres forward JJ Peterka was a force at the IIHF World Championships this spring for Team Germany. Following a big showing, Buffalo’s hopes remain high that the young forward will take another step forward after an excellent rookie season.
