Devils Daily: The One With a Few Reports
Green to replace Brunette, Avs interested in Pesce
Newark, NJ – The free agency class this summer has been determined as weak. As a result, it appears that plenty of clubs are trying to get ahead and make their moves. It started with the Columbus Blue Jackets’ aggressive work. The Devils contributed to that aggressiveness trading Severson to Columbus. Since then, plenty more has gone down league-wide. Looking forward, there’s plenty to come, including a few reports that could become official soon.
Let’s dive in.
New Jersey Devils
New Jersey Hockey Now: Andrew Brunette’s departure left a vacancy next to Lindy Ruff behind the Devils bench. According to reports, New Jersey filled the spot with Travis Green.
The Athletic: Pierre LeBrun provides an update on the pending UFA Goaltending carousel. The Devils don’t (yet) have a pending UFA goaltender, but LeBrun reiterates that Mackenzie Blackwood’s rights could be traded before July 1st.
National Hockey Now
Colorado Avalanche
Colorado Hockey Now: You might have thought the Avalanche wanted to shed a defenseman due to a surplus on their blueline. However, Colorado is reportedly in the market for a defenseman. The Carolina Hurricanes have supposedly made Brett Pesce available and the Avalanche are interested.
Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas Hockey Now: The Golden Knights hit a home run acquiring Ivan Barbashev at the trade deadline. He was an important piece in Vegas claiming the Stanley Cup. However, he priced himself out of Vegas’ future plans. Not to worry, the homegrown talent is ready to step up.
Washington Capitals
Washington Hockey Now: The Capitals are well known for their pipeline of players hailing from Russia. At the 2023 NHL Draft, that may be no different as Mitvei Michkov could be their pick at selection No.8 if he falls.
Los Angeles Kings
LA Hockey Now: The Kings have been an intriguing team to watch over the years. They were rebuilding, then made some impace acquisitions such as Kevin Fiala and Joonas Korpisalo. However, if they don’t plan accordingly, selling their future can do more harm than good.
Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo Hockey Now: The Hockey Hall of Fame will announce their class this week. The Hall has alluded Alexander Mogilney for too long. Will the 14-year wait finally come to an end?
