Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald is exploring options to upgrade

Newark, NJ – New Jersey is making noise.
Tuesday brought plenty of news. The Devils found themselves in the mix after a report surfaced they’re in the mix on a Vezina Trophy candidate. Elsewhere, a couple of contracts were extended while others reveal they’ll test free agency. With the 2023 NHL Draft just one week away, the action around the NHL is beginning to pick up. With the way things have gone thus far, it could be quite an entertaining summer.

New Jersey Devils
New Jersey Hockey Now: GM Tom Fitzgerald gave his goaltending a vow of confidence following the 2022-23 season. However, according to a report, New Jersey is in on Vezina Trophy candidate Connor Hellebuyck.
More NJHN: Trade talks around Yegor Sharangovich have picked up. Here are five destinations the 25-year-old forward could land.
NJ Advance Media: Fitzgerald took part in the second-ever sign and trade in NHL history. He’s on the record stating he thinks it could and should happen more. The Devils GM even alluded to the fact that he’s open to doing more himself.
NHL Network: Jamison Coyle, Kevin Weekes, and Tony Granato talk about the benefits of the Devils bringing in Travis Green.

National Hockey Now
Florida Panthers
Florida Hockey Now: After the Charlotte Checkers were eliminated from the Calder Cup Playoffs, Gregori Denisenko was recalled by Florida as a Black Ace. When Matthew Tkachuk was absent due to a broken sternum, Denisenko stepped in. A restricted free agent on July 1st, Denisenko says he wants to be back with the Panthers.
San Jose Sharks
San Jose Hockey Now: The writing was on the wall with James Reimer and the Sharks. However, now it’s confirmed. According to Reimer’s agent, the 35-year-old goaltender will test free agency.
New York Islanders
NYI Hockey Now: The Islanders extended defenseman Samuel Bolduc to a two-year, $1.6 million contract. Bolduc will carry an $800K AAV.
Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: Out with the old, in with the new. Sort of, anyway. The Flyers unveiled their new uniforms on Tuesday revealing a “new age of orange.” It’s more of a metaphor for the future of their franchise. The new look is clean, though.
Detroit Red Wings
Detroit Hockey Now: The Red Wings own the ninth overall selection at the 2023 NHL Draft. Steve Yzerman was forward about the fact that he’s not trading it. Detroit will make the selection.
Calgary Flames
Calgary Hockey Now: Milan Lucic wants to talk to other teams ahead of free agency. The Flames are okay with it. Following a stressful 2022-23, it sounds like both parties are okay with fresh starts apart.
Montreal Canadiens
Montreal Hockey Now: At the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline, there was word the Canadiens could deal Sean Monahan. He remained, and he’ll stay a little longer. On Tuesday, Montreal extended Monahan to a one-year, $1.985 million contract.
Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo Hockey Now: The Sabres extended Zemgus Girgensons to a one-year, $2.5 million contract on Tuesday. GM Kevyn Adams calls Girgensons a quiet leader.
