A couple of updates from practice yesterday. The New Jersey Devils returned a recalled forward to the Utica Comets.

The Devils also created a new term. Listen to this. Nico Hischier isn’t “day-to-day,” but instead he is being evaluated “day-by-day.” Therefore, the Devils captain remains questionable to go on New Jersey’s four-game road trip. However, the Devils returning a forward to Utica is a positive sign in the developing situation.

Plus, the Pittsburgh Penguins pay tribute to Adam Johnson, the Boston Bruins are faced with a tough decision, and a young forward returns to the Philadelphia Flyers lineup.

Let’s do that hockey.

New Jersey Devils

New Jersey Hockey Now: If you can believe it, the Devils’ goaltending has been a bit of an issue. However, Sunday nights contest was a good step in the right direction. Is there a path for Vitek Vanecek to usurp starting goaltending duties for the Devils?

More NJHN: Tyler Toffoli had a monster week scoring six goals and seven points in four games. The NHL named him the first star of the week.

Devils.NHL.com: Easy come, easy go for Justin Dowling. He took warmups on Sunday but that was as close to playing for the Devils as he’d get at this time. New Jersey reassigned Dowling back to AHL Utica.

National Hockey Now

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins honored the late Adam Johnson in a ceremony before their game against Anaheim on Monday night at PPG Paints Arena. Johnson is a former member of the organization.

Boston Bruins

Boston Hockey Now: Rookie center Matt Poitras has been a revelation for Boston. The Bruins will be forced to make a decision on returning the 19-year-old to juniors or not after Monday night’s game. Otherwise, they’ll burn a year on his entry-level contract.

Philadelphia Flyers

Philly Hockey Now: Morgan Frost was a healthy scratch through the Flyers’ first six games of the regular season. As controversial as it was for the young, skilled forward, he’s returned to the lineup as of last night.

Detroit Red Wings

Detroit Hockey Now: Sebastian Cossa was a high-profile goaltending prospect when he was drafted by the Red Wings. It’s been a rocky road, however, he’s now being mentored by a former NHLer.

Nashville Predators

Nashville Hockey Now: Preds youngster Cody Glass suffered a lower-body injury. At first glance, it didn’t appear to be all that serious. However, Glass is expected to miss a little more time than originally planned.
