Devils Daily: Injury Bug Lingering in New Jersey
The New Jersey Devils will hit the ice today for an 11:30 AM morning skate ahead of their tilt with the Washington Capitals.
The injury bug is lingering in New Jersey. One of the Devils’ star forwards is back on the shelf again with a new injury. Another forward looks like he’ll be returning to game action on Wednesday after a difficult week of injury and illness. Elsewhere, Devils prospects are showing out at the World Junior Championships. In fact, they’ll face off against each other tomorrow in the semi-final of the junior tournament.
In other news, what’s up with the goalie market? The Boston Bruins head coach is calling for more protection for his players, and is this the Pittsburgh we should expect?
Let’s do that hockey.
New Jersey Devils
New Jersey Hockey Now: It’s been complicated for Timo Meier in the first year of his eight-year, $70.4 million contract. In fact, the Swiss forward’s season has been derailed by injury, and he suffered a new one that will keep him out of tonight’s tilt with the Washington Capitals.
More NJHN: The Devils have two prospects at the World Junior Championships this winter. On Tuesday, Seamus Casey and Lenni Hameenaho each made an impact on their respective teams.
NJ.com: Curtis Lazar has been through the wringer over the last few days. He even missed the Devils’ New Year’s party as a result of blocked shots, bruises, and food poisoning?!

Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: For a team that consists of players such as Sidney Crosby, Erik Karlsson, Evgenii Malkin, & Kris Letang, their identity should be based on skill, right? On the contrary. Instead, the Penguins are playing a gritty game by winning puck battles, protecting their net, and getting great goaltending.
Boston Bruins
Boston Hockey Now: Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery has had enough of opponents constantly taking liberties with Bruins captain Brad Marchand and alternate captain David Pastrnak.
Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo Hockey Now: Both Ilya Samsonov and Eric Comrie cleared waivers yesterday. Where does that leave the state of the goaltending market?
New York Islanders
NYI Hockey Now: The Islanders face a steep hill in the New Year. To kick off 2024, they play eight of their 13 games in January with their longest homestand being two games. Their position in the standings is certainly at risk.
