Devils Daily: New Jersey’s Gone AWOL, Former Devil Thriving
Away from the rink on back-to-back days, the Devils are mentally and physically resetting.
The New Jersey Devils have gone AWOL.
They were off on Sunday and will be again today. The Devils are likely using these couple of days to mentally and physically reset. They lost a winnable game against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday and lost Jonas Siegenthaler in the process. That came after the news that Jack Hughes is hurt with an undetermined timetable.
All that came after injuries to fellow key players Dougie Hamilton, Timo Meier, and Ondrej Palat. It’s another tough injury stretch for the Devils.
Despite the team having an off day on Sunday, general manager Tom Fitzgerald was not. He moved Tomas Nosek to long-term injured reserve. Following his NHL debut, Graeme Clarke was reassigned.
Perhaps the first domino has fallen.
Anyway, in the links: Options to patch or upgrade a beat-up blue line. Plus, a former Devil thriving thanks to health persisting, Philly’s short-handed “power-kill,” and is the reigning Norris-Trophy defenseman providing in Pittsburgh?
Let’s do that hockey.
New Jersey Devils
New Jersey Hockey Now: Missing their top pair of Dougie Hamilton and Jonas Siegenthaler, the Devils need reinforcements on the blue line. Here are eight options, both internal and external, small scale and large scale, and long or short term to help a battered and bruised Devils squad.
NHL.com: In case you missed it, Graeme Clarke was reassigned to the AHL Utica Comets on Sunday. Clarke registered one shot attempt and one hit in 9:32 of time on ice in his NHL debut.

Colorado Avalanche
Colorado Hockey Now: Over the summer, the Colorado Avalanche moved on from a few forwards. Whether it was letting them leave via free agency, or moving on in the form of a trade, the team lost three of their top nine forwards and had to replace them. How are they performing with their new clubs?
Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: The Philadelphia Flyers’ ‘power kill’ isn’t a myth. It’s very real, in fact, and they’re being led by the one-man band named Travis Konecny.
