Last Game

New Jersey dropped an attainable two points to the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. Juraj Slafkovsky and Joshua Roy put the Habs ahead 2-0 through the first 40 minutes of play. However, the Devils clawed their way back scoring two power-play goals by Luke Hughes and Alexander Holtz as a result of a double minor assessed to Nick Suzuki. Unable to clear the Devils’ crease — a theme for all three goals vs. the Canadiens — Cole Caufield batted in a loose puck past Nico Daws to score the game-winning goal with 4.5 minutes remaining in the game.

Daws turned in another quality start making 22 saves on 25 shots in the 3-2 loss.

Player To Watch

Alexander Holtz owns two goals over his last three games played and earned his first power-play goal for 2023-24 on Wed., Jan. 17, vs Montreal. He’s now scored 11 goals this season and after some dispute following the conclusion of Wednesday night’s tilt, he’s looking toward a stronger 5-on-5 performance to earn more ice time.

Devils vs. Blue Jackets

According to the Devils’ PR, “The Devils and Columbus meet for the fourth time in 2023-24, which concludes the Metropolitan Divisional foes regular-season series.

The Devils suffered a 2-1 loss on Nov. 24, at the Rock, but then earned wins against the Jackets on Dec. 16 (6-3, W) and Dec. 27 (4-3,W).

A win, or overtime defeat, on Friday would mark the third time since 2013-14 that the Devils won a regular-season series against Columbus (2022-23 & 2014-15).
