Gee, that Stanley Cup Final got violent last night, didn’t it? Perhaps, that should be a lesson learned for General Manager Tom Fitzgerald and the New Jersey Devils. The playoffs are a physical arena for battle, and it should be in their best interest to add a little more muscle this offseason, even with Kurtis MacDermid under contract.

In the links, the latest update on the Devils and the Jacob Markstrom saga. Plus, which Devils prospect confirmed his attendance for Devils development camp.

Elsewhere, Florida is in danger of losing their captain for the remainder of the Stanley Cup Final. A recent slip on the draft board could see Philly draft Matvei Michkov’s friend. And, a Snoop Dogg, Montreal Canadiens collab.

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils News

New Jersey Hockey Now: It’s clear the Devils are searching for a No.1 goaltender this summer. They won’t be the only ones in pursuit of Calgary Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom with the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs reportedly now in the mix. However, the Devils are considered the frontrunner for the Swedish netminder.

More NJHN: The NHL has a jam-packed schedule — both on and off the ice — in the month of June. Development camps for individual organizations are just another event that can begin as soon as the end of June as well. According to a report out of Belarus, New Jersey Devils prospect Daniil Karpovich confirmed his attendance at development camp this summer.

Florida Hockey Now: The Florida Panthers have to feel really good about their 2-0 series lead over the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final. However, after what was seemingly a flying elbow from Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl to Panthers captain Sasha Barkov‘s head, the Cats could lose their captain for the remainder of the championship round.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

The Athletic ($): There’s a solid crop of restricted free agents heading into this summer who have all been significant contributors to their NHL clubs. Here’s a look at what the top 15 RFA’s next contracts could look like, including Devils forward Dawson Mercer.

Philly Hockey Now: The Philadelphia Flyers won’t say it, but they desperately want their top prospect talent, Matvei Michkov, to come to North America to begin his NHL career. Perhaps they can woo him a bit further along. Michkov’s friend, Ivan Demidov, might fall down the draft board with an outside chance that he’ll be available for the Flyers to take.

Calgary Hockey Now: From the Calgary perspective, additional teams jumping into the race for goaltender Jacob Markstrom is a good thing. Flames GM Craig Conroy fielding calls from multiple times will only drive up the cost to acquire the 34-year-old goaltender.

Montreal Hockey Now: Famous rapper Snoop Dogg, AKA Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., was in Montreal in the frame of the Formula 1 festivities that took place during the weekend. As per usual, Dogg managed to bring forth a link with the local fans, as he wore a t-shirt featuring Canadiens defenceman Arber Xhekaj.
