Erika Wachter Barnes, one of MSG Network’s on-air hosts for the New Jersey Devils, will not have her contract renewed for next season, ending her six-year run.

Wachter took to social media on Tuesday night, explaining that MSG had decided not to renew her contract to move in a different direction.

“Next season, I will not be returning as host for the New Jersey Devils on the MSG Networks broadcast. MSG has decided not to renew my contract and instead will be moving in a different direction. So, after six seasons, that is sadly it for me, covering this team that we all love so much. It’s been an absolute joy and a true privilege to be able to be on your screens night in and night out covering this team. I have been able to meet and cover and get to know so many incredible players and different people within the New Jersey Devils organization…

“I have learned so much about myself over the six years on this job, I have so much more confidence in myself and what I do for a living, and of course, my love for the sport of hockey has grown…While this news has definitely been disappointing and hard to take, I know that I have to just see the bigger picture and remain optimistic that everything truly does work out.”

Wachter was hired by MSG Networks in 2018 after her previous two-year stint as a sports reporter and host for FOX 5 New York.

Former Devils Ken Danyko, Bryce Salvador, and play-by-play host Bill Spaulding remain on the MSG broadcast panel.

The Devils preseason opens on Sunday, Sept. 22 vs. the New York Islanders. The preseason tilt could mark the first time we receive a glimpse of Wachter’s potential replacement.
