Devils Daily: Free Agency & Trade Rumor Mill

Published

New Jersey Devils

Perhaps we could see the Stanley Cup hoisted tonight. The Florida Panthers host the Edmonton Oilers on home ice in Game 5 holding a 3-1 series lead. If so, this simmering pot of boiling water could finally boil over, and a flurry of trades could happen before free agency opens on July 1st. The New Jersey Devils are expected to be in the trade market. We’ll see how it pans out.

In the links, a former Devil could head to their rival, the 2024-25 preseason schedule was revealed, and an intriguing prospect to potentially draft 10th overall.

Elsewhere, the Anaheim Ducks dropped a Mighty clue, hinting that the rumored rebrand isn’t just smoke.

Plus, Martin Necas, Steven Stamkos, and Josh Manson offseason rumors.

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils News

New Jersey Hockey Now: Rarely, if ever, do the New Jersey Devils do business with their division rival, the New York Rangers. Yet, the Rangers were poking around the idea of approaching the Devils for a trade at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, however, ultimately didn’t pull the trigger. Now, the Rangers very well may target Tyler Toffoli in free agency.

More NJHN: The 2024-25 season will be here before you know it. It feels a bit closer now that the Devils preseason schedule has been released.

Even More: The New Jersey Devils have one of the best collections of young players in the NHL. If the Devils keep the 10th overall selection, Michael Brandsegg-Nygård makes for an intriguing pick.

2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Florida Hockey Now: At no point in the Stanley Cup Final has Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice seemed to be panicked. Even after their 8-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers in Game 4, that remains true. However, there will be a slight lineup tweak heading into Game 5 tonight.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Sportsnet: Despite the Oilers being in the midst of the Stanley Cup Final at the moment, extension talks with superstar forward Leon Draisaitl have begun. Here’s why it’s a good sign for the Oilers.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins’ pending free agents this summer are few, and none that will be too costly. However, on July 1st, there are Penguins players such as Sidney Crosby who will be eligible to sign an extension with one year remaining on their current deal. Crosby’s next contract with the Pens seems like a foregone conclusion, but what about Marcus Pettersson?

Boston Hockey Now: The Boston Bruins have been searching for a first line center ever since Patrice Bergeron retired. Although he’s played the wing in his time with the Carolina Hurricanes, Martin Necas was drafted as a center. According to reports, the Bruins are one of the teams in the mix for the Czech forward.

Colorado Hockey Now: The Colorado Avalanche have a decent amount of contracts to work out this summer. Evan Rawal of CHN isn’t suggesting that the Avs will trade Josh Manson, however, he is pointing out that a clause change in his contract gives GM Chris MacFarland the flexibility to move some money around if necessary.

Chicago Hockey Now: It’s not like he doesn’t have playmakers to work with in Tampa Bay, but could you imagine how many goals Steven Stamkos would score next to Connor Bedard? If the Lightning captain makes it to July 1st, the Hawks could come knocking.
