What is it with NCAA players these days and dictating where they play in the NHL? Perhaps it’s similar to how they chose what school to go to. Of course, I’m alluding to Rutger McGroarty and his camp pursuing a deal to leave the Winnipeg Jets organization. McGroarty, a former teammate at the University of Michigan with New Jersey Devils prospect, Seamus Casey, is one of the NHL’s top prospects and is returning to Michigan for a third season.

In the links, the Devils are connected to a key Carolina Hurricanes defenseman who is heading to free agency.

Elsewhere, count the Flyers out on McGroarty. Count the Habs in, however. Plus, history will be made at the Stanley Cup Final one way or another.

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils News

New Jersey Hockey Now: The Devils were always going to be in the market for a top-four defenseman this offseason. However, after dealing Kevin Bahl, now they’ll really need to ensure they reel one in. Is New Jersey going to pursue Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Brett Pesce who is heading to free agency?

Florida Hockey Now: It’s unbelievable how we got here. The Florida Panthers nearly swept the Edmonton Oilers by taking a commanding 3-0 series lead at the start off the Stanley Cup Final. The Oilers, however, crawled out of the hole they dug themselves and now we’re heading to Game 7. O ne way or another, Stanley Cup Final history will be on Monday night.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

The Athletic: Here is every teams toughest decision heading into July 1st, the first day of free agency.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The four horsemen of hockey are Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr, and Gordie Howe. Sidney Crosby has seemingly played his way to being the fifth member. However, is Connor McDavid on his way to surpassing Crosby?

Philly Hockey Now: On Saturday, it was revealed that top Winnipeg Jets prospect and University of Michigan ace Rutger McGroarty is trying to force his way into the NHL, which explains his decision to go back to Michigan from April. McGroarty, who would not be promised an NHL roster spot by the Jets, is close friends with former Philadelphia Flyers prospect Cutter Gauthier.

Montreal Hockey Now: Speaking of McGroarty, he’d certainly be a fit with the young, up and coming Montreal Canadiens squad.
