Devils Daily: Devils’ Massive Pick; Shopping Defenseman; Rutger McGroarty

There were a decent amount of trades on Friday night’s first night of the 2024 NHL Draft. However, it was underwhelming activity as they were all pick swaps that didn’t involve any actual NHL talent after rumors swirled involving a few NHL names. That includes the New Jersey Devils who were reportedly open to moving the 10th overall pick. Instead, they drafted.
In the links, the Devils made a MASSIVE selection 10th overall. You can learn about the new Devils defenseman and when he might play for New Jersey. On a different Devils defenseman note, New Jersey is shopping one of their veterans.
Elsewhere, Rutger McGroarty is drawing interest from a handful of teams, as is Calgary forward Nazem Kadri, and San Jose strikes gold at 11th overall.
Let’s do that hockey.
Devils News
New Jersey Hockey Now: General Manager Tom Fitzgerald has been adamant about becoming a heavier, more violent team to play against. Clearly, when selecting 10th overall on Friday night, he had that in mind as the Devils drafted 6-foot-7, physical defenseman Anton Silayev.
Sup, Anton.

NYI Hockey Now: The Boston Bruins aren’t the only team with interest in the young Winnipeg Jets prospect. The New York Islanders are reportedly in the mix for the Michigan Wolverines forward as well. The Isles also did a pretty good job at the draft, stealing Cole Eiserman at 20th overall.
