The New Jersey Devils are seemingly done adding for the summer. Unless there is some offer they can’t refuse, all that’s left is to take care of their in-house business. Although the whole picture isn’t complete quite yet, there’s enough accomplished to reflect on the summer signings and how the Devils did.

Seamus Casey was in town before the holiday over the weekend. Including Casey, there will be a lot of new defenseman on the ice in Newark in September. The Devils prospect had some pretty encouraging thoughts on that.

Elsewhere, summer rankings for all 32 teams, Philly inks their first-round pick in 2024, and Valeri Nichuskin finally addresses his sudden departure in Seattle two postseasons ago.

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils News

NJ.com: With so many changes this summer, it leaves one wondering where that leaves one of the Devils’ top prospects, Seamus Casey in all of this. Frankly, you’ll love hearing what he had to say on that matter.

The Athletic: There’s little doubt that General Manager Tom Fitzgerald addressed a plethora of needs this offseason. Signing Brett Pesce was one of the many parts he brought in to help stabilize the blueline. In terms of Pesce’s contract, how well did Fitzgerald actually do? The Athletic takes a look.

New Jersey Hockey Now: For comparison, here’s how New Jersey Hockey Now ranked the Pesce signing, plus contract grades for all of the fish reeled in during free agency.

Sportsnet: Now that free agency has died down and we’re really into the summer, it’s a good time to look at offseason moves and shakeups around the NHL. Although the Devils were held in high regard in last summers rankings, Sportsnet remains bullish on the New Jersey squad after solid work by GM Tom Fitzgerald, especially with the new coach bump.

Philly Hockey Now: The Philadelphia Flyers signed Jett Luchanko to his three-year, entry-level contract immediately after the development camp scrimmage at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees, New Jersey, on Saturday night.

Colorado Hockey Now: There’s a lot that comes with Valeri Nichuskin. He’s certainly had his off-ice issues that have directly resulted in on-ice ramifications. He’s currently in the NHLPA’s Player Assistance Program and his future in the NHL looks murky. In an interview based out of Russia, the Avalanche forward discusses the night in Seattle from two postseasons ago.
