Devils Daily: Spencer Knight News; Markstrom Over Ullmark; Parise Retirement Still Unofficial
When the New Jersey Devils were in the midst of their goaltending search, there was quite the debate between fans which netminder they should go for. To this day, some fans clamor that Jacob Markstrom wasn’t the right choice. I beg to differ, he’s going to be the best goaltender fans will see in New Jersey since Cory Schneider. Yet, plenty of fans hoped for former Boston Bruins netminder, Linus Ullmark. There’s a reason why General Manager Tom Fitzgerald went for Markstrom over Ullmark, however.
More on that in the links below.
Elsewhere, Spencer Knight will have an elevated role in Florida next season, Zach Parise is still unofficially retired, and Patrick Kane is the biggest ambassador for Detroit.
Let’s do that hockey.

San Jose Hockey Now: Justin Bailey might have a tough time breaking camp with the San Jose Sharks. But one thing that he knows, based on last year — if he’s playing well with the Barracuda, the Sharks will notice.
Colorado Hockey Now: In the playoffs, it looked like former Devils forward Zach Parise might have some gas left in the tank, especially after the first round, as he performed quite well for the Avalanche against the Winnipeg Jets. He made it clear down the stretch that it was his last season in the NHL, but you just never know if a competitor like that might change his mind after some time away. Although he hasn’t signed those papers quite yet.
Florida Hockey Now: Spencer Knight did not play a game for the Florida Panthers last season, instead, spending the entirety playing with the Charlotte Checkers in the American Hockey League. The former first round pick will have a bigger role next season. (+)
Philly Hockey Now: According to a study, the Philadelphia Flyers were the best fighting team in the NHL, thanks in large part to Nicolas Deslauriers’ 100% win rate in his 11 fights this season.
Detroit Hockey Now: Patrick Kane — who has become the biggest ambassador for Detroit’s organization — has a five-point plan to put the Red Wings into the postseason.
