Devils Sign ‘Once-Budding’ Prospect to One-Year Deal
Adam Beckman was once a “budding prospect” with the Minnesota Wild.
The New Jersey Devils announced on Monday evening that they have signed forward prospect Adam Beckman to a one-year, two-way contract.
Beckman’s contract is worth $775,000 at the NHL level and $125,000 ($150,000 guaranteed) at the American Hockey League (AHL) level.
The Devils acquired Beckman from the Minnesota Wild earlier this summer in exchange for former AHL leading goal scorer, Graeme Clarke. It’s evident both players needed a fresh start somewhere else.
There was a time when Beckman rapidly rose through the ranks of the Wild’s prospect pool. In fact, he nearly beat out top forward prospects Marco Rossi and Matt Boldy for a Minnesota roster spot three seasons ago.
However, it sounds like consistency issues and limited roster spots have prevented the “once-budding” forward from becoming a full-time NHLer.
“He’s played well. He had a good year last year,” Guerin told Michael Russo via The Athletic in February. “I think sometimes with younger players, consistency plays a big part in it and being able to adjust and maybe take a different role. There just hasn’t been availability. The last couple years, we’ve been relatively healthy, so there hasn’t been a need for a lot of call-ups. But, hey, now he’s getting another shot and he’s just got to make the most of it.”
The Wild selected Beckman in the third round of the 2019 NHL Draft, 75th overall. In 11 games with the Wild last season, Beckman tallied two assists. In 51 AHL contests, Beckman scored 19 goals and 33 points for the Iowa Wild.
Beckman will join someone the Devils’ top prospects with the Utica Comets such as Seamus Casey and Chase Stillman, barring an unforeseen training camp that holds him on the NHL roster.
