Plenty of things will change with the New Jersey Devils over the next 10 years. In fact, most of the players you see today very well may not even be on the team anymore. It will certainly be an exciting ride to see how things develop within the organization and who will blossom into their best players that could potentially represent their countries on a national level. Devils players will get their chance next year and in 2030. In 2034, Devils players in a decade from now may get the chance to do it again in Salt Lake City.

It was revealed on Wednesday morning that Salt Lake City will host the 2034 Winter Olympics when the games return to North America for the first time since 2010 when they were played in Vancouver, Canada. Salt Lake City previously held the games in 2002, which will be 32 years between the set of games.

It’s an exciting time to be a sports fan in the state of Utah. The Utah Jazz aren’t the only major sports club in town anymore after the Arizona Coyotes were relocated to Salt Lake City — which is now the unnamed Utah Hockey Club (UHC).

Ryan Smith — the UHC and Jazz owner — and wife, Ashley, have already begun their plans to renovate the Delta Center to give it a more NHL-friend environment. However, now that Salt Lake City will be the official host-city of the 2034 Winter Olympics, they’ll certainly receive a boost in funds to bring their facilities up to Olympic standards.

The NHL is scheduled to participate in a number of national best-on-best competition before the 2034 Olympics. As soon as February 2025, the NHL will play in the 4 Nations Faceoff, a tournament between the NHL’s best from Canada, the United States, Sweden, and Finland.

It’s almost certain you’ll see names such as Jack Hughes, Luke Hughes, and Jesper Bratt participating in the exclusive NHL event.

However, the NHL is also going to the Winter Olympics in 2026 and 2030 in Italy and France.

The NHL has not been announced yet as participants in the 2034 games and we may not know until we’re much closer, similarly to how the NHL was revealed to play in the 2026 and 2030 games just two years before the next winter event. However, the players’ lust for playing in the Olympics is seeing them return in 2026 & 2030.

“There is a recognition of how important this is to the players, and in the spirit of cooperation — particularly the work that we did together during COVID — everybody felt on our side that it was the right thing to do,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. “… This really came down to doing something because the players really wanted it.”
