We’re approaching August and the New Jersey Devils still have a pretty important contract to lock up. After the Columbus Blue Jackets took care of a bit of their own business on Sunday, it gave the Devils and Dawson Mercer a decent starting point for the 22-year-old’s next contract.

Sportsnet: This is certainly an interesting signing. You would think that after Alex Nylander scored 11 goals and 15 points in 23 games at the end of the 2023-24 season for the Blue Jackets that he’d be able to secure an NHL contract. Instead, he lands an AHL deal to play in the Toronto Maple Leafs system where brother William Nylander resides.

More Sportsnet: This was an interesting exercise. I could think of a few other players who Devils fans would prefer to lose in an expansion draft before the one proposed in this mock.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: This should be of interest to Devils fans as the Pittsburgh Penguins play in the same division. Within the top-five prospects in Pittsburgh’s system is the “next core” of players for the Penguins.

Philly Hockey Now: Another tidbit that should be of interest to Devils fans. Flyers forward Bobby Brink has the goods and could break out at any moment. Here’s what the Flyers asked him to work on this offseason.
