The New Jersey Devils’ goaltending went through significant surgery starting at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. Jake Allen gave the Devils their first stable presence in the crease they’d seen in a long time, and now, they’re adding Jacob Markstrom to the mix. In the links, four facts you might not have known about the Devils’ new No.1 netminder.

Elsewhere, Sidney Crosby’s contract is perhaps holding up other decisions in Pittsburgh’s plans, Boston’s division rivals believe the B’s will win the Atlantic, and Brock Faber gets his pay day.

Let’s do that hockey.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

NHL.com: The Minnesota Wild and defenseman Brock Faber agreed to an eight-year, $68 million contract extension ($8.5 million average annual value) that begins in the 2025-26 season

TSN: The Carolina Hurricanes and forward Martin Necas avoid arbitration and settle on a two-year, $13 million contract despite the belief that the Czech forward desired to play elsewhere next season.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: PHN has learned the Pittsburgh Penguins have discussed a new contract, or at least broached the subject of a new deal, with Marcus Pettersson, but further talks are on hold until the most significant issue is resolved. Sidney Crosby still needs a contract and it’s apparently not as much of a slam dunk previously assumed.

Boston Hockey Now: After the Boston Bruins spent big this summer and made major reinforcements to their lineup, their rivals are not only viewing them as a threat but also envision them controlling the Atlantic Division this season.

NYI Hockey Now: The New York Islanders blue line has looked the same for a while, and with the contracts handed out by GM Lou Lamoriello, it will seemingly look that way for a while. Is the defense good enough as constructed?
