The New Jersey Devils revealed multiple hirings in the hockey operations department on Thursday. President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald announced that former Devils captain Andy Greene, former NHL GM Chuck Fletcher, and former NHL goaltender Manny Legace have all been hired in respective roles.

Greene officially retired from the NHL following the 2021-22 season, announcing he was hanging up the skates on October 12th, 2022. His new title within the Devils organization will now be “Advisor, Hockey Operations.” According to the Devils, Greene “will now serve as an advisor to Fitzgerald and the entire hockey operations group which will include working with the scouting and player personnel departments, coaching staff, and pro and amateur scouting staffs, while serving as a resource from his experience in the game.”

Greene was previously working in a part-time capacity in New Jersey with the Devils coaching staff and scouts.

Perhaps the most surprising hire is former Philadelphia Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher. The Devils announced that Fletcher will serve as a “Senior Advisor to the President, Hockey Operations and General Manager.” Fletcher’s duties will include advising Fitzgerald on player personnel, scouting, and contracts.

Some of Fletcher’s most notable transactions as the Flyers GM were trading former No.2 overall pick Nolan Patrick and Philippe Myers to the Nashville Predators for defenceman Ryan Ellis, acquiring the rights to Kevin Hayes from the Winnipeg Jets, and sending fan favorite Wayne Simmonds to Nashville. The Flyers fired Fletcher on March 10th, 2023 in favor of current Flyers GM Daniel Briere.

Fletcher previously worked with Tom Fitzgerald as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins organization from 2006-2009.

Legace’s title with the Devils will be “Head Amateur Goaltending Scout / Development Coach.” The former NHL goaltender will work alongside Executive Vice President Martin Brodeur, “working with all the goaltenders in the Devils system and serve in a scouting capacity for draft-eligible prospects.”

Legace is the former goaltending coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2018-19 to 2022-23.

The Devils also announced the following additions/hirings:

  • Mike Rooney and Mike Yandle have been hired as Amateur Scouts.

  • Ryan Fitzgerald has been named S. College Scout.
