Devils Daily: Yaroslav Askarov Trade; Devils Were in the Mix

Yaroslav Askarov was always going to be a hot commodity on the trade market. It didn’t take very long at all for the Nashville Predators to trade the goaltending prospect, despite their general manager claiming he expected to see him at training camp. The New Jersey Devils showed interest in the 22-year-old. However, without their 2025 first-round pick, they couldn’t compete with the competition that lined up at Trotz’s door.
Elsewhere, some Rutger McGroarty discourse, Pavel Datsyuk faces more Hall-of-Fame grief, and the AHL makes a huge, necessary mandate.
Let’s do that hockey.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: It had become a matter of fact that Rutger McGroarty wouldn’t sign with the Winnipeg Jets because they refused to guarantee him an NHL roster spot. Post-trade to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Jets have refuted the narrative.
Boston Hockey Now: The Boston Bruins pretty much have their roster set in stone ahead of the start of training camp next month. However, the team might have room for a few extra bodies in training. Some of the proposed candidates here were also proposed in our PTO candidates for the Devils.
Detroit Hockey Now: Has their been a more controversial Hall-of-Fame nominee in recent history? Detroit Red Wings legend Pavel Datsyuk is facing more grief upon his nomination.
Montreal Hockey Now: While most of the focus has been on the new potential Montreal Canadiens forward lines now that sniper Patrik Laine is in the mix, the trade will also impact the possibility one of the team’s best defensive prospects will earn a roster spot out of camp.
