New Jersey Devils
Devils September Schedule; Important Dates & What to Watch
Rookie camp, training camp, and the Devils’ preseason all get underway this month.

The kids are going back to school, the air is becoming more crisp, and the leaves are beginning to change colors. It can only mean one thing. It’s September. More importantly, that also means that hockey will resume this month. Although official games won’t start until October, there is plenty on the New Jersey Devils’ schedule starting this month that fans will want to keep a close eye on.
The training camp schedule has yet to be officially revealed, however the prospect challenge is upon us and usually camp opens up a few days later. Plus, players such as Jacob Markstrom have arrived in New Jersey in preparation for what’s ahead.
It’s so close we can almost taste it.
Prospect Challenge
Rookies will report to camp in Buffalo on September 11th to take part in the prospect challenge. Additional participating teams include the Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, Ottawa Senators, and newcomers the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Hockey — in some shape or form — will return next week when the Devils rookies take part in a series of three games.
Here’s the schedule:
Friday, Sept. 13:Â Devils vs. Senators, 3:30 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 14:Â Devils vs. Sabres, 7 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 16:Â Devils vs. Bruins, 10 a.m.
Defense prospect, Seamus Casey, is already in Buffalo with fellow top prospects from around the NHL who are involved in the rookie showcase. He’s joined by Philadelphia Flyers prospect Matvei Michkov, San Jose Sharks forwards Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith, as well as Anaheim Ducks forward Cutter Gauthier.
Casey will remain in Buffalo a little while longer while the rest of the Devils rookies make their way. Those expected to join Casey in Buffalo include defensemen Topias Vilen and Mikeal Diotte and forwards Josh Filmon, Chase Stillman, Cam Squires and Dylan Wendt. New Jersey Hockey Now has also confirmed that CHL defenseman Igor Mburanumwe will join the Rookies in red and black at the Prospect Challenge as well.
Devils Training Camp
The upcoming training camp in Newark is certainly going to be a highly anticipated one. New Jersey underwent a serious makeover this summer and, as a result, there will be plenty of fresh faces. Everyone is perhaps the most excited to feast their eyes on the likes of Markstrom, Brett Pesce, and Brenden Dillon.
Although we don’t have a complete schedule, we know that veterans are expected to report to camp on Sept. 18th — when New Jersey’s training camp officially begins.
The rookies who are participating in the prospects challenge are expected to be in Newark for training camp as well.
Some storylines were looking out for already are how Dougie Hamilton will look following season-ending pectoral surgery in December. Similarly, Jack Hughes and Timo Meier has offseason procedures as well.
Plus, although Team Slovak doctors cleared him of anything being broken or dislocated, we’re still awaiting word on the status of Simon Nemec. That should clarify itself in the coming days.
