As hockey season draws nearer, the excitement for the season builds. Everyone is returning from their summers and turning their focus back to the NHL. Lately, the New Jersey Devils have come up (positively) in many conversations. It appears they’re going to be a trendy pick as one of — if not — the best team in the Metropolitan Division.

I know what you’re thinking. That feels a lot like last summer. However, the sum of the parts now are far greater than before. This excitement for the Devils is further justified.

In the links, an update on the 2018 Hockey Canada situation.

Plus, a former Devils defenseman is on the verge of a new deal.

Elsewhere, Sidney Crosby could be extending soon after all, your first look at Yaroslav Askarov in teal, and a unique jersey ad in Washington.

Let’s do that hockey.

Now, Crosby is on record explaining he’s optimistic an extension will get done, and soon.

San Jose Hockey Now: Your first look at Yaroslav Askarov in San Jose Sharks gear is here. The Russian goaltender joined Will Smith at the informal captain’s skate in San Jose yesterday, just days before rookie camp.

Florida Hockey Now: The Florida Panthers claimed their championship and partied hard this summer in celebration. Now, they’re ready to turn the page and defend the Stanley Cup.
