Team Red defeated Team White 3-2, Jack Hughes impresses the masses with a crafty shootout goal.

NEWARK — The second day of on-ice activities didn’t bring much in terms of any surprises. The previous New Jersey Devils personnel were still absent, although that should change soon with an official Dawson Mercer announcement.

One nugget of information we did learn is that forward Adam Beckman is in New Jersey, however, he is not skating. The Devils explained he is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
The Devils acquired Beckman in a one-for-one trade from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Graeme Clarke.
Erik Haula remained absent on day two as he continues to recover from illness.
After the first group of Devils players practiced, they competed with Group 2 in a scrimmage.
Paul Cotter made quite the impression on Devils staff and media in attendance, showcasing not only the meat and potatoes portion of the game, but some impressive skill as well.
Jesper Bratt became injured when he took a shot to what looked like his knee. He skated off to the bench with the help of Timo Meier, however, returned to the ice and appeared to be just fine.
Later in the scrimmage, he scored a goal for the red team, who ultimately won the game 3-2.
The Devils also participated in a shootout in which Jack Hughes scored one of the more impressive goals — even for just a scrimmage at training camp. The Devils’ superstar with speed stick-handled the puck as close to Isaac Poulter as he could, faked a forehand shot and on his backhand, floated the puck over Poulter’s shoulder and over the goal line.
Hughes’ goal gathered a collective “ooh” and “ahh” from the Devils players and media alike.
“Did you see how nice that shootout goal was? That’s pretty impressive,” Stefan Noesen said. “I can’t do that, slap shots over here.”
