Better late than never, right? The news all New Jersey Devils fans have been waiting for finally dropped on Friday. Now, it’s a matter of getting Dawson Mercer to training camp as soon as possible. I’m pretty sure we’ll see him on the ice later today.

Over the last two days, Paul Cotter has certainly turned heads. Asked about his skill level, and he got glowing reviews. More on Cotter in the links.

Lastly, Timo Meier and Kevin Labanc have played together before. No one is rooting more for Labanc to earn a contract than Meier.

Elsewhere, ex-Devils forward and his brother could be goldmines in Florida, fellow ex-Devils forward lining up next to the 2024 No.1 overall pick, and new Pittsburgh prospect making case for NHL roster.

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils News

The biggest news of the day broke quite early on Friday morning. Dawson Mercer inked a new multi-year extension with the Devils after missing the first few days of training camp.

New Jersey Hockey Now: Paul Cotter threw 233 hits in 2023-24 with the Vegas Golden Knights. With the New Jersey Devils comes the opportunity to prove he has more to contribute offensively, and he’s already impressing just about everyone.

More NJHN: No one in the New Jersey Devils organization is rooting harder for Kevin Labanc than Timo Meier. The former San Jose Sharks teammates are now reunited in New Jersey after general manager Tom Fitzgerald extended Labanc a professional tryout contract. Meier is happy to see his old friend get an opportunity on his new team, and hopes to see his stay in New Jersey extended.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

TSN: It went down to the wire, but the Ottawa Senators reached an agreement to build a new arena in downtown Ottawa.

Sportsnet: There’s been a lot of talk about the Utah Hockey Club, but perhaps not enough talk about forward Dylan Guenther. He’s one of the pillars in Salt Lake, and the 21-year-old forward just inked an eight-year extension.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Rutger McGroarty does not yet have a locker stall in the main room at the Pittsburgh Penguins practice facility. However, if he keeps shining the way he is in training camp, he could soon.

San Jose Hockey Now: Ex-Devils forward Tyler Toffoli was named an alternate captain for the San Jose Sharks. Part of his leadership duties on the ice are to mentor Macklin Celebrini — who Toffoli will play on a line with in the upcoming season.

Florida Hockey Now: Adam and Jesper Boqvist live close enough to one another now that they get to carpool to work with the Florida Panthers. The cats believe they can strike gold if all goes well with the ex-Devils forward and his brother.
