New Jersey Devils Make Second Round of Roster Cuts
The New Jersey Devils announced their second round of roster cuts on Wednesday as they inch closer to the 2024-25 regular season.
With the last game of the preseason set to get underway on Friday, the New Jersey Devils made their second round of roster cuts as they inch closer to their regular season roster.
According to the Devils, the following transactions were made on Wednesday:
- Igor Mburanumwe and Landon Sim have been released from their amateur tryouts.
- Andre Ghantous, Kevin O’Neil, Jace Isley, and Tag Bertuzzi are re-assigned to the Utica Comets (AHL) training camp.
- Dylan Wendt and Tyler Brennan have been loaned to Utica.
Most of the Utica Comets have already begun training camp with the Devils over the last two weeks. However, AHL training camps are open and teams can begin holing organized practices. However, there are still some players on the Comets who are playing up on the NHL roster while the varsity club is away in Prague.
Andre Ghantous, Kevin O’Neil, Jace Isley, and Tag Bertuzzi are all on AHL contracts, thus were re-assigned back to the Comets. However, Dylan Wendt and Tyler Brennan are on entry-level contracts with the Devils, which explains their loan status.
The Devils invited Igor Mburanumwe to the prospect challenge in Buffalo on an amateur tryout. They must have liked what they saw, as he stuck around for the majority of the Devils’ training camp. The 6-foot-5, 187 lb defenseman, however, committed to McGill University and will play in the USports league next season.
As for Landon Sim, the former sixth round draft pick by the St. Louis Blues is heading back to the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League. It will be Sim’s fourth and final season in the OHL.
After getting a close look at Mburanumwe and Sim, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them get AHL/ECHL contracts in the future.
