Montreal Hockey Now: The Canadiens learned the fate of recently-acquired star forward Patrik Laine and 2023 first-round pick defenseman David Reinbacher. In what ended up being a preseason game from hell, the Canadiens will be without both players for a significant portion of the 2024-25 season.
The Athletic: Following the bombshell press conference by Boston Bruins President of Hockey Operations, Cam Neely regarding starting goalie Jeremy Swayman’s contract, the negotiations have officially gone off the rails. Neely and Swayman’s agent, Lewis Gross, exchanged their displeasure with each other during negotiations and it seems both sides have reached a boiling point.
Sports Illustrated: Meanwhile, the NHL Board of Governors meeting is taking place and we now have some insight in what the salary cap may look like in 2025, coming straight from the source, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
“Bettman says very very early ballpark salary cap figure for next season is $92.5 M,” LeBrun posted on his X account. “But again very preliminary he cautioned.” This would represent a $4.5 million increase in the cap for the 2025-26 season.
