San Jose Hockey Now: The other night, the San Jose Sharks fell to the Utah Hockey Club 3-1 in a preseason contest, but most noteworthy was an injury to Macklin Celebrini. After tumbling into the boards, he went to the locker room gingerly and would not return. While most of central California collectively held their breaths, new reports have emerged, calling the injury “Nothing serious at all.”
New York Islanders Hockey Now: More good news on the injury front as Ilya Sorokin, who’s only been skating on his own, was spotted on the ice taking shots. Sorokin underwent back surgery in the offseason and, while not on track to play opening night, is taking steps forward to be ready as soon as possible.
Sportsnet: Even more positive news on the injury front, this time involving a trio of Ottawa Senators. After a physical preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens, Tim Stutzle, Thomas Chabot, and captain Brady Tkachuk all left the game due to injuries. Head coach Travis Green told reporters he didn’t expect them to miss much time, and General Manager Steve Staios confirmed this on the Locked on Senators podcast.
Boston Hockey Now: Even more fallout from the ongoing Jeremy Swayman vs. Boston Bruins contract drama unfolds as the Bruins claimed goalie Jiri Patera off waivers from the Vegas Golden Knights. Patera has played eight career NHL games with the Golden Knights and adds to a stable of goalies to fill Swayman’s void, which includes Joonas Korpisalo, Brandon Bussi, and Michael DiPietro.
