Now that the NHL training camp is over, the attention now turns to AHL training camp for most. Those on two-way deals and AHL contracts will report to Utica this week as they get ready for the start of the season.
Forwards Cam Squires, Max Graham, and Maytas Melovsky have been assigned to their junior teams, where they’ll play out the 2024-25 season. Melovsky was eligible, but the Devils opted to return him to Baie-Comeau in the QMJHL.
Two players whose fate is still unclear are PTO’s Kevin Labanc and Jakub Zboril. Labanc is coming off a hat trick against the Philadelphia Flyers in their preseason finale and six goals in total. He’s certainly done enough to earn himself a contract and possibly find a spot somewhere with the NHL squad. As for Zboril, his preseason was inconsistent, but with injuries and a thin blue line in Utica, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if he earned himself a two-way contract.
