There was so much action on the NHL waiver wire on Sunday that it was easy to miss the NHL trade between Colorado and Vancouver. In the mix of teams who waived players, the New Jersey Devils were participants. They also reassigned one of their goaltenders to the American Hockey League — who did not require waivers.
Elsewhere, might the Habs scoop up a former first round pick who hit waivers? Jeremy Swayman and Ilya Sorokin updates, and key injuries in Buffalo.

Devils.NHL.com: The Devils announced a fourth round of roster cuts, waiving four players and reassigning goaltender Nico Daws back to the Utica Comets.

NHL.com: Despite having back surgery over the summer and missing all of training camp and the preseason, New York Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello says Ilya Sorokin will be ready for the Isles’ season opener.
Boston Hockey Now: The standoff between the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman has come to an end. The two sides agreed on a new eight-year extension for the 25-year-old goaltender.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins trimmed their roster by two on Sunday, waiving one player who was expected to be in full competition for a spot on the Penguins’ blue line. Following the transaction, more roster decisions loom for GM Kyle Dubas.
Florida Hockey Now: The Florida Panthers have canceled their public Championship Ring Ceremony which was to be held at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise due to poor weather conditions and South Florida being under a state of emergency due to Hurricane Milton.
Colorado Hockey Now: As the preseason winds down and rosters begin to become set, the waiver wire becomes pretty active. Sometimes, an NHL trade even sneaks its way through. That’s exactly what the Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks did with Erik Brannstrom.
Montreal Hockey Now: The Montreal Canadiens have an opportunity to add a 2019 first-round pick to the mix, as the Calgary Flames have placed one on the waiver wire.
Buffalo Hockey Now: The Buffalo Sabres return to North America with an 0-2-0 record at the hands of the Devils. Yet, it gets worse. They suffered three key injuries in the process, including the promising JJ Peterka.
