Utah HC Top Defenseman Injured vs. Devils, Out Long-Term
Utah defenseman Sean Durzi left the second period of Monday’s game against the New Jersey Devils and didn’t return. Will require surgery.

When the Utah Hockey Club visited Newark, New Jersey, they left taking a loss on the scoreboard and on their blue line. Amid a shutout performance by Jake Allen and the New Jersey Devils, Utah lost top defenseman Sean Durzi to injury.
Durzi left the second period of Utah’s tilt with the Devils following an awkward collision as a result of a hit by defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler. Durzi picked himself up off the ice and appeared to be favoring his upper-body, perhaps his collarbone or shoulder, as he made his way to the Utah locker room.
The Devils went on to shutout Utah, who worked the remaining 30-plus minutes without their top defenseman. Jake Allen made 20 saves en route to a record-breaking night.

Utah GM Bill Armstrong announced earlier this week on KSL Sports Zone that Durzi would be out for the foreseeable future.
In a more recent update by Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli — which was revealed on Sports Prime in Canada — Durzi will undergo surgery and is expected to miss 4–5 months of action.
Through four games so far this year, the 25-year-old defenseman tallied two assists and helped Utah get off to a 3-0-0 start.
Durzi is coming off a career year, formerly with the Arizona Coyotes. The former second round selection in 2018 registered nine goals and 41 points last season, matching his previous goal career-high and eclipsing his career high in assists.
Jack Hughes and Co. won’t see the Utah Hockey Club again until March 1st, 2025. There’s a sliver of hope Durzi will be back in the lineup by then if he meets the four-month minimum of recovery.
