New Jersey Devils Place Injured Forward On Waivers
Adam Beckman started the 2024-25 season on season opening injured reserve with a lower-body injury.
NEWARK – It appears one of the injured New Jersey Devils forwards who started the year on season opening injured reserve is returning to health. On Sunday, the Devils announced that forward Adam Beckman was placed on waivers. He, along with Julien Gauthier of the New York Islanders, were the lone waiver adds. The Devils intend for Beckman to clear waivers with the purpose for reassignment to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Utica Comets.
Beckman did not participate in any of the Devils’ training camp or preseason. The Devils said he suffered a lower-body injury and was considered day-to-day on Sept. 20th. However, the first sight of Beckman came on Oct. 19th, when Beckman skated as a placeholder for the ill Jesper Bratt during morning skate. Bratt dressed later that night and played versus the Washington Capitals.
Now, Beckman is heading for Utica barring a claim by one of the other 31 NHL clubs. The Devils acquired Beckman from the Minnesota Wild in a one-for-one trade which saw Graeme Clarke go the other way.
Beckman was selected in the third round of the 2019 NHL Draft, just five spots after Clarke. Each player was viewed as a value selection with the potential to play NHL games. Yet, both Beckman and Clarke didn’t exactly live up to expectations with their former clubs.

Now, Beckman is expected to serve in a top-six role with the Comets if he makes it through waivers. Last season, the Devils prospect scored 19 goals and 33 assists in 51 games with the Iowa Wild, serving as one of the team’s alternate captains. Beckman had an even better showing in the 2022-23 season, potting 24 goals and 56 points in 53 AHL contests.
Beckman played in 23 total NHL games with the Wild across three seasons. He registered just one point in that span.
