The Athletic: The Igor Shesterkin negotiations have captured most of the headlines in New York, but it’s 2020 first-overall pick Alexis Lafrenière who gets his big extension first. Coming off a career-high 57-point season, the Blueshirts secure one of their centerpieces for the future on a long-term deal.
TSN: The Utah Hockey Club announced they have waived former first-round pick, Kailer Yamamoto. The 26-year-old has yet to register a point this season and will not report to Tucson of the AHL.
Boston Hockey Now: If you think there’s a rift between Brad Marchand and Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery, you’re wrong. Montgomery was seen ripping into Marchand on the bench during their 2-1 overtime loss to Utah, but the captain saw nothing wrong with the accountability.
