Devils Daily: Keefe Gushes Over Hischier; Bad News for McDavid, Oilers

Published

on

The New Jersey Devils have landed in Vancouver ahead of their tilt with the Canucks on Wednesday. They’ll begin a three-game road trip in which Brenden Dillon says he believes will help the Devils get some normalcy back in their schedule. That seems odd to say since they’ll be on the road for a decent chunk of time. However, it also means more down time for practices and extra rest.

One guy who might not want to rest is Nico Hischier. The captain has been lighting it up and is receiving high praise.

Elsewhere, it’s not good news for Connor McDavid who was injured last night, Sidney Crosby concedes slow start, and a Philly goaltending prospect makes Flyers history.

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils News

New Jersey Hockey Now: After scoring his NHL leading ninth goal of the season on Sunday, head coach Sheldon Keefe explains why Devils captain Nico Hischier has been so impressive and explains he takes on so much more than just a goal scoring role.

More NJHN: Speaking of Hischier, his stock has skyrocketed. In the latest Stock Up, Stock Down, who else on the Devils is rising, while others fall?

Sportsnet: Things with the Edmonton Oilers haven’t started well, and they’re potentially about to get worse. Superstar Connor McDavid left the first period on Monday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets after one shift and didn’t return to the game after suffering a lower-body injury. In fact, he’s not even going with the Oilers who are headed for Nashville next.

The Athletic ($): The Toronto Maple Leafs agreed to a five-year, $4.51 million extension on Monday with defenseman Jake McCabe. There’s deferred money involved, but has Toronto committed to too many older blue liners?

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: There were plenty of light-hearted distractions Monday for Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, but he also took a few minutes to offer an evaluation of his performance through 10 games. “I’m trying to find it.”

Philly Hockey Now: Although things did not exactly go according to plan after surrendering four goals in a 4-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday night, Philadelphia Flyers goalie prospect Aleksei Kolosov made NHL history in his NHL debut.

Montreal Hockey Now: When it comes to points/60, Montreal Canadiens prospect Ivan Demidov is already among the KHL’s best.
