When it was announced that the 4 Nations Face-Off would only include literally four nations, the stars of the respective countries not involved were rightfully disappointed. Now that the rosters have been released and the international tournament is a talking point again, an ex-New Jersey Devils goaltender expressed he’s “hurt” by the exclusion.

Not excluded from the tournament, Jack Hughes is excited to play with all the talent on Team USA. In fact, he expressed exactly who he wants to play on a line with.

Elsewhere, an ex-Devils defenseman is being outplayed by a rookie. A San Jose player blasts Swedish newspaper over false report. And, a surprise change in Chicago.

Let’s do that hockey.

The Athletic ($): Who is the next man up for each position in each nation if there is an injury and a replacement is needed? Spoiler alert, it’s still not Dougie Hamilton for Canada’s blue line.

Chicago Hockey Now: Perhaps the biggest news of the day. The Chicago Blackhawks did something few expected on Thursday, firing head coach Luke Richardson after an 8-16-2 start to the 2024-25 NHL Season.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Rookie Owen Pickering’s presence since being recalled from Wilkes-Barre in mid-November already has affected the Pittsburgh Penguins’ lineup, because he has bumped Ryan Graves from the No. 3 pairing to the healthy-scratches list.

San Jose Hockey Now: Ex-Devils goaltender Vitek Vanecek expressed he’s “hurt” by Czechia’s exclusion in the 4 Nations Faceoff.

More SJHN: A Swedish newspaper published William Eklund had made the final Sweden roster at the 4 Nations Faceoff. However, the report proved to be false, and the Sharks forward blasted the outlet. ‘Never listen to that clown newspaper.’
