NEWARK—Ahead of their tilt with the Los Angeles Kings, the New Jersey Devils took the ice for morning skate. The Devils were off on Wednesday, so there was no update on injured goaltender Jake Allen. However, head coach Sheldon Keefe provided one on Thursday after he and a Devils forward were missing from morning skate.

The Devils recalled rookie goaltender Isaac Poulter to back up Jacob Markstrom in their 2-1 overtime loss on Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The expectation is that Poulter will remain on the bench until Jake Allen returns from injury, and Markstrom will get all the starts until his goalie partner returns.

The good news is that could be sooner than later.

“[Allen] skated this morning, which is positive,” Keefe explained Thursday morning. “He won’t backup tonight, and we’ll see where he’s at going into practice tomorrow to make a determination from there.”

Allen missed the last game with an upper-body injury, seemingly suffered in Sunday’s tilt against the Colorado Avalanche.

In the forward group, Erik Haula was not in attendance at morning skate. Tomas Tatar skated in his place on the third line, however, Haula is expected to dress and play against the Kings Thursday night.

“We expect [Haula] to be available tonight,” Keefe stated.
