Devils Top Prospect Could Miss Time With Injury
Seamus Casey could be out weeks, according to Ben Birnell of the Utica Sentinel.
New Jersey Devils top prospect, Seamus Casey, is continuing his development in the American Hockey League after making a positive impression in a short stint at the NHL level. However, that development is on halt as Casey has suffered an injury, according to a report.
Ben Birnell of the Utica Sentinel reports, Casey may have suffered an upper-body injury during last Saturday’s game against the Syracuse Crunch. The Devils’ top prospect left the final frame in their 1-0 loss to the Crunch.
Casey missed the following game, a 3-2 Utica Comets victory over the Cleveland Monsters. Birnell reports Casey could miss “weeks.”
The Devils top prospect took advantage of injuries to Luke Hughes, Brett Pesce, and Santeri Hatakka who all opened 2024-25 with injuries.
Thus, a roster spot was up for grabs and Casey took hold. In eight games to start his NHL career, Casey scored three goals and four points.
Offense wasn’t a question for Seamus Casey. He’s proven that he can both distribute and fill the net at the NCAA level. Now in his stint with the Comets at the AHL level, he’s continuing to prove his offensive abilities from the blueline, with two goals and 14 points in 17 contests this season.
Casey has served as a second-pair right defenseman next to Daniil Misyul, behind fellow top defense prospect, Simon Nemec.
The Comets started the season winless through their first 13 games. They broke the losing streak with a five-game win streak, and have accrued six wins this season, although still sit at the bottom of their division.
Casey is in a three-way tie as Utica’s second-leading point collector (14), with Brian Halonen and Nolan Foote.
