It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. Not only are the holiday’s underway, but the NHL returns to action tonight and the World Junior Championships began yesterday. For fans of the New Jersey Devils, there’s not a whole lot to follow at the U20 tournament. However, that’s because their best prospects are playing professional hockey, whether that be in the National League or elsewhere.

Speaking of the Devils, the vibes are high as they sit in first place as of this morning. However, there’s one glaring issue they’re going to want to address before it comes back to haunt them. More on that in the links.

Elsewhere, a rare coaching change in Motor City, ex-Devils flourishing in Florida, and some bold predictions for 2025.

Let’s do that hockey.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Sportsnet: With 2024 coming to a close, here are some bold predictions for 2025, including a rather interesting NHL trade proposal for a team in the Metropolitan Division.

San Jose Hockey Now: Will Smith is a high-profile young talent for the San Jose Sharks. Much like Macklin Celebrini, he stepped into the NHL with the Sharks at the beginning of this season. However, his production hasn’t been quite as good as Celebrini’s. So what do three NHL scouts think of the 19-year-old thus far? (+)

Florida Hockey Now: The Florida Panthers‘ under the radar acquisitions this past summer are paying dividends in the sunshine state, including a few former Devils.

Detroit Hockey Now: The Detroit Red Wings waited until after the holiday, but they made a rare decision on Thursday. The Red Wings have only made one coaching change since 1982. However, that number has climbed to two, as they relieved Derek Lalonde of his duties, as well as associate coach Bob Boughner. Effective immediately, they hired Todd McLellan, who DHN have deemed the right fit.
