As we inch closer to the NHL trade deadline, more and more forwards are revealed to be reportedly available. The New Jersey Devils are reportedly in the market for depth scoring, and starting with the center position—especially in the absence of Erik Haula—seems plausible.

However, there’s good reason to doubt the Devils are interested in the newest name on the NHL trade market. More on the latest center available in the links.

It should surprise no one to see Jacob Markstrom’s name in the early Vezina Trophy race discussion.

Elsewhere, drama in Pittsburgh, Michael Bunting involved in car accident; and the Devils suddenly have another division rival to worry about.

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils News

NHL.com: The Devils are receiving some of the best goaltending they have in a long, long time. Jacob Markstrom has simply been incredible. So, where does he stand in the Vezina Trophy race?

NY Post: Suddenly, the Devils have to worry about another in-division rival. The New York Islanders are going well, real well lately. They have a chance to prove the general manager Lou Lamoriello’s endless vow of confidence is justified.

Ottawa Sun: According to Bruce Garrioch, the Ottawa Senators want to get Josh Norris off their books. Another center on the NHL trade market? The Devils are looking for one. However, I doubt they’re salivating at the idea of adding the oft-injured forward at a near $8 million cap hit. Someone would certainly bite on a former 30-goal scorer, though, no?

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Pittsburgh Penguins winger Michael Bunting missed Sunday’s game unexpectedly. Bunting was involved in a car accident near the arena Sunday afternoon. Details are not yet known. Sullivan reported that Bunting and everyone else involved was “OK.”

More PHN: Unfortunately, this is something that happens a little too often. A Pittsburgh Penguins fan—an older gentleman—stole a game puck from a young man who acquired the game-used souvenir. And just when you thought this story couldn’t get any worse, it does as you peel back the layers.
