Third time’s the charm? The New Jersey Devils (26-15-5) visit the Toronto Maple Leafs (27-16-2) in their final meeting during the 2024-25 season. The Devils dropped the first two contests earlier this year, and are hoping to take the finale in their barn.

It’ll be a special night for Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe who returns to where his NHL coaching career all started. Keefe cited his excitement to return to Toronto on Wednesday morning.

“I’m excited for it,” Keefe said to the media. “I spent nine years there, the Leafs time, but the Marlies time too, was equally special to me, and I was fortunate to essentially raise my family there, in fact, they’re still living there.”

A couple of notes heading into tonight’s contest.

It’s expected that Brian Halonen will meet the Devils in Toronto for tonight’s game. On the other end of the ice, John Tavares appeared to become injured during yesterday’s practice. His status for tonight is in question.

Additionally, defenseman Jake McCabe has been absent from the Toronto lineup. That could change tonight as McCabe inches close to making his return to the lineup.
