Nemec is replacing injured Devils prospect defenseman, Seamus Casey, who was initially named to the 2025 All-Star roster.
The Devils prospect defenseman joins the North Division team, alongside top prospects Logan Mallioux, Devon Levi, and Denton Meteychuk.
It was a slow start to the 2024-25 season for the former second overall pick. He started on the Devils’ varsity roster, skating in nine games and collecting a single point.
He was then demoted to the AHL when both Luke Hughes and Brett Pesce returned at the same time from their respective injuries.
Nemec took a bit to get acclimated to the struggling Utica Comets. However, he’s recently broken out at the AHL level, most recently registering a five-point game (2g, 3a) in a 7-3 victory over the Hartford Wolfpack.
The Slovakian defenseman is now is up to five goals and 16 points in 23 AHL games this season.
As a result of a crowded blueline in New Jersey, Nemec awaits a recall for an opportunity to prove he belongs in the NHL. The 20-year-old defenseman exudes confidence, and has been on the record more than once that he belongs in the NHL. If and when the Devils require reinforcements, Nemec is likely one of the first candidates to be recalled.
Similarly to his rookie campaign, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see the Devils top prospect make the most of his opportunity and force management to make a difficult decision in his next NHL chance.
For now, he’ll serve as an AHL All-Star.
