NJHN Daily: Devils Rival Nets Blockbuster; NHL Trade Buzz; Islanders Shocking Add

Certainly, if you’re a fan of the New Jersey Devils, last night’s blockbuster trade made you feel uneasy. You can bet that Devils aren’t exactly thrilled, either. The Carolina Hurricanes got the best player in the deal, a Stanley Cup Champion, and future hall of famer.
General manager Tom Fitzgerald will have some work to do of his own.
However, just because the Hurricanes pulled off this deal, that doesn’t mean the Devils need to replicate one of this magnitude. The Devils have their core, and it’s one that is filled with stars. They just need to make the right deals to round out the roster.
We’ll see what the coming weeks bring.
Elsewhere, the Canes also snagged a top-six forward from Chicago, some other NHL trade news out of Pittsburgh, and a shocking addition on Long Island.
Let’s do that hockey.

Colorado Hockey Now: The big news of the night. The Colorado Avalanche connected with Devils rival, the Carolina Hurricanes, in a three-team trade involving the Chicago Blackhawks. The best player in the deal, Mikko Rantanen, is now a member of the Canes, as Carolina makes a statement deal.
Sportsnet: There’s plenty of time until the March 7th NHL Trade Deadline to see if Rantanen would ink an extension with the Avs. So, why did this deal happen now? Friedman with the latest.
Chicago Hockey Now: Perhaps somewhat lost in last night’s craziness, Taylor Hall was also dealt to the Hurricanes.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Speaking of trades, it’s not a secret what the Pittsburgh Penguins want on the NHL trade market. General manager Kyle Dubas and staff are scouring the NHL for young players, NHL-ready prospects, and draft picks, in that order, and have been linked to the Buffalo Sabres.
Florida Hockey Now: Nate Schmidt thought he could revive his career in Sunrise. His plans have been executed accordingly, as he’s turned his career around as a member of the Florida Panthers.
NYI Hockey Now: Before the stunning blockbuster last night, the New York Islanders shocked the hockey world themselves, adding defenseman Tony DeAngelo who previously played in the KHL earlier this year.
