New Jersey Devils
NJHN Daily: Devils Linked to Ex-Forward; New Names on NHL Trade Board

There’s one game left before the 32 NHL teams disperse for the 4 Nations break, aside from their respective representatives, of course. The expectation is that NHL trade activity will pause during the world tournament, although, there is no rule against NHL teams making deals during the 4 Nations Face-Off. We’ll see how much longer New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald waits as his team continues to struggle.
The Devils are known to be in the market for a third-line center. However, the consensus among many is they may need a bit more than just the one depth add. A natural shooter would help. More on that below.
Elsewhere, an Isles rumor has gained traction, however, our NYI correspondent explains why it’s a terrible idea. Plus, Sidney Crosby’s health status, and new names on the NHL trade board.
Let’s do that hockey.
Devils News
New Jersey Hockey Now: At the sake of sounding extremely hipster, we suggested Kyle Palmieri as a fit in a potential Devils trade back in December.
DailyFaceoff: That being said, Frank Seravalli, Daily Faceoff’s insider, has connected Palmieri to the Devils as we inch closer to the NHL trade deadline.

The Athletic ($): Most of the top names have already come off the shelf and are with their new owners. Yet, plenty of big names still remain on Chris Johnston’s NHL trade board, plus some new ones have been added. There are even a few you could see becoming Devils.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins did not have Sidney Crosby in the lineup Friday when the team faces a crucial matchup against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. As far as his timetable to return… well… there is none, short or long.
NYI Hockey Now: Rumors are swirling that perhaps the New York Islanders are considering trading defenseman Noah Dobson. NYIHNs Russ Macias explains why that is, in fact, a terrible idea.
If you ask me, I’m not buying this rumor for a second. The Islanders have already been spurned trading a young, top-four defenseman when they dealt Devon Toews to the Colorado Avalanche in 2020. Plus, Dobson is one of the few silver linings on an aging roster who—by the way—scored 70 points (10g, 60a) last season. Some have linked Dobson to Elias Pettersson. Of course, the Islanders would trade the defenseman for one of the NHLs elites. However, it’s unlikely the Canucks do that after trading J.T. Miller. This one reeks of BS, and I ain’t buying it.
Philly Hockey Now: New Philadelphia Flyers forwards Jakob Pelletier and Andrei Kuzmenko are finally in the City of Brotherly Love after Visa delays stalled their arrival.
