NJHN Daily: In-Division Devils Trade Target; Q. Hughes Opts Out of 4 Nations

It’s officially the 4 Nations Face-Off break, a period of time off the New Jersey Devils certainly needed. Battered and bruised, the Devils now have the time they need to recover. As a result, they hope to return looking more like their December selves, as opposed to their post-break identity.
When the Devils do return, there’s not much time before the NHL trade deadline. Pittsburgh has one of their top-end players who is shooting up ALL the NHL trade boards. In fact, he’d be a good fit for the Devils if Fitzgerald is willing to pay for the in-division tax. More on the available Pittsburgh forward in the links below.
Elsewhere, speaking of the NHL trade deadline, the Isles have roster decisions to make, Philly is getting increased interest on one of their veterans, and Jack Hughes’ brother opts out of the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Let’s do that hockey.

NHL.com: Now that the NHL is officially in the 4 Nations Face-Off phase, the Devils reassigned Simon Nemec, Santeri Hatakka, and Nico Daws to the Utica Comets.
Depending on the health status of Jacob Markstrom and Jonas Siegenthaler, both Nemec and Daws could be back with the varsity team when the regular season resumes. We’ll see how this all plays out.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: One name who has surged up NHL trade boards is Pittsburgh Penguins forward, Rickard Rakell. Rakell is having one of his best seasons in a long time, and should fetch the Pens a decent return. In fact, he’s a guy who would fit well on the Devils, helping to address that lingering scoring depth issue.
NYI Hockey Now: Ahead of the NHL trade deadline, the misfit New York Islanders have a plethora of roster decisions to face amid the 4 Nations Face-Off break.
Philly Hockey Now: It was previously believed that Scott Laughton wouldn’t be a name on NHL trade boards this season. However, with many of the top names already off the board and the Philadelphia Flyers falling further in the stands, the phone is ringing on the 30-year-old more often.
