No one wanted to hear the news that was revealed by the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday. Yet, the reality has sunk in, and now the Devils will need to pivot.

They won’t throw in the towel. What kind of message does that send to Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, Timo Meier, and the core? Instead, the group wants to grow and prove they’re much more than just a Hughes supporting cast. They remain buyers at the deadline, and could be taking a big swing. More on it all in the links below.

Elsewhere, Pittsburgh makes a few moves, Alexander Georgiev sheds truth about Colorado, and Ryan Donato’s stock keeps rising.

Let’s do that hockey.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Less than 30 minutes after making a smaller trade, shipping out Vincent Desharnais for a mid-round pick, Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas made the bigger deal, trading Michael Bunting and a 2026 fourth-round pick to the Nashville Predators for center Tommy Novak and defenseman Luke Schenn.

San Jose Hockey Now: Alexander Georgiev opens up to San Jose Hockey Now, explaining he felt the Colorado Avalanche lose trust in him quickly, which contributed to a downward spiral, why he’s happy with the San Jose Sharks. (+)

Chicago Hockey Now: The Devils are certainly one of the teams who are interested in acquiring Ryan Donato. CHNs Greg Boysen says the Chicago Blackhawks should sell high, or don’t sell him at all.
