NHL Trade Deadline
Devils Targeting Blues Captain Brayden Schenn?
The Devils have turned their focus to Blues captain Brayden Schenn ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline.

NEWARK—As the clock winds down on the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, names are coming off the board. The New Jersey Devils remain buyers, and have turned their attention to St. Louis Blues captain, Brayden Schenn, a source tells New Jersey Hockey Now.

The Devils were disappointed when the New York Islanders traded Brock Nelson to the Colorado Avalanche. New Jersey could have matched the offer, and with the in-division tax the Islanders would have likely applied, perhaps beat Colorado’s offer of Calum Ritchie and a first round pick.
However, the sense is the Devils did not want to pay a premium on a rental player at 34 years old.
Schenn is more of the kind of player that aligns with general manager Tom Fitzgerald‘s wish list. The Devils GM prefers players who he can acquire, and will remain with the team for more than just a quarter of a season and a playoff run.
If the Devils can acquire Schenn, the idea is he could be the ideal 3C behind Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier when New Jersey returns to full health in the future, while filling an elevated role for the remainder of this season.
Schenn is in the fifth year of an eight-year contract in St. Louis. His contract holds a $6.5 million cap hit.
Schenn has 12 goals and 38 points in 61 games this season.
The Devils have a few lines out on the water among the remaining top names on the NHL trade market. The priority remains a center, and Schenn fits the bill.
It’s believed the Toronto Maple Leafs are also seeking Schenn ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline.
The NHL Trade Deadline is at 3 P.M. EST on Friday, just ahead of the Devils’ tilt with the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night.
We’ll see what develops here over the next few hours.
