NJHN Daily: New Devils Set the Bar; Marchand, Bruins Rift Revealed

It’s real easy to get caught up in how the newbies impacted the New Jersey Devils’ victory yesterday. However, it’s important to remember that the Philadelphia Flyers are worse than their last meeting after the NHL Trade Deadline. It was certainly a great way to make a first impression. But, now the bar is set. And when said players don’t meet that bar, fans are certainly going to get restless. If anything, it was perhaps just the reset Erik Haula needed. He finally got back on the board after 29 games, and registered a primary assist, too. The Devils crave depth scoring. They hope they’ve found the solution.

The Athletic ($): Despite the truth that the Toronto Maple Leafs went to Mitch Marner and asked if he would wave his no-trade clause in a deal for Mikko Rantanen, GM Brad Treliving says he still wants the 27-year-old with the Leafs for “a long time.”
