The New Jersey Devils can’t catch a break. The bad injury news gets worse. They’re already without Jack Hughes and Jonas Siegenthaler for the remainder of the season. Now, Dougie Hamilton joins that trio.

That’s three top-line players the Devils are without while navigating their push for the playoffs down the stretch.

Tough.

More on that in the links.

Elsewhere, Ovechkin isn’t the only one chasing Wayne Gretzky, how far the Isles can fall, and Patrick Kane turns back the clock.

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils News

New Jersey Hockey Now: When Jack Hughes had season-ending surgery, plenty were ready to stick a fork in the Devils. However, they’re still a good team who can hold onto their spot in the playoffs down the stretch, and perhaps surprise in the postseason. They’ll need certain guys to step up, however. So, who has so far?

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins served goalie Tristan Jarry a healthy dose of that humble pie in mid-January by waiving him and re-assigning him to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL. That figurative dish followed a few months of NHL opponents also humbling the Penguins’ No. 1 goaltender. This Jarry seems different, however.

NYI Hockey Now: Well, if there’s one opponent the Devils don’t have to worry about in the Metropolitan Division, it’s the New York Islanders. How low in the draft lottery can they get? It’d be wise of them to add to their new top-tier prospects in Cole Eiserman and Calum Ritchie.

Detroit Hockey Now: Patrik Kane turned vintage on Wednesday, propelling the Detroit Red Wings to victory by registering a five-point night, looking like his former elite self.

The Athletic ($): Alexander Ovechikin isn’t the only one chasing a Wayne Gretzky record these days. In fact, his arch nemesis, Sidney Crosby, is after one as well.
