There’s plenty of reason to wake up feeling optimistic about the New Jersey Devils on this Friday. Yes, the Dougie Hamilton news on Thursday as another kick while they were already down. However, the Devils continue to overcome the odds and create separation for themselves in the standings, sitting eight points ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Rangers.

Last night’s win over the Edmonton Oilers was huge for the confidence of Simon Nemec, and was just another spotlight on Jesper Bratt who stole the show.

Amid the Devils’ 3-2 victory, Mrs. Fields won her second straight Dessert Race. She’s now 2-30 on the season, but a streak is a streak.

In a funny moment after the win, Sheldon Keefe recognized the streak the cookie is on.

“Mrs. Fields carries us through,” Keefe joked.

Hey, they scored 32 seconds after Mrs. Fields won the dessert race to tie the game. Maybe there’s something to this.

Perhaps, Mrs. Fields is to the Devils what Grimace is to the New York Mets.

Anyway, more on the win, plus news on Arseni Gritsyuk in the links.

Elsewhere, offer sheets in Pittsburgh? Win-win trade between Ottawa & Buffalo, and a way too early look at the top free agents in the 2025 class.

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils News

New Jersey Hockey Now: Although general manager Tom Fitzgerald explained he was trying to get KHL star and Devils prospect, Arseni Gritsyuk, under contract, a source tells New Jersey Hockey Now that won’t happen right now, and he’s weighing his NHL future. (+)

More NJHN: The Devils have now put together three wins in a row, the first time doing so since Dec. 21st-27th. It was an impressive victory in which Jesper Bratt dominated, and Simon Nemec played hero.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: With the NHLs salary cap rising significantly, there are more opportunities for general managers to acquire players. Offer sheets have been popping up more and more in summer discussions, and Pittsburgh Penguins GM Kyle Dubas hinted he might utilize that strategy in the upcoming offseason.

Ottawa Hockey Now: Everyone could see the Mikko Rantanen trade coming. Therefore, the most surprising trade might have happened between the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres. It’s working out quite well, however. Josh Norris looks like a good center for Tage Thompson. On the Ottawa side, what’s not to love about how Dylan Cozens is playing?

Sportsnet: Here’s a way too early look at the top-12 unrestricted free agents this summer. Certainly, there are a few names on the list that would bode well for New Jersey.
