Many were calling for Jake Allen to take the reigns for the New Jersey Devils after yesterday’s loss. Let’s not forget how lights out Jacob Markstrom was pre-injury. He’s still getting settled, and the only way to do so is by playing more games.

About Allen, however, the trade that brought him to New Jersey has finally been fulfilled. More on that in the links below. Also, it’s an early look, but he could be one of the top available goaltenders this summer. If he does get there, he’ll be coveted.

Elsewhere, Mikko Rantanen finally speaks his truth, Bruce Cassidy rips into Vegas, and is Travis Green Jack Adams worthy?

Let’s do that hockey.

Devils News

New Jersey Hockey Now: The Jake Allen trade is finally complete. After the Devils’ tilt on Saturday, the stipulation attached to the Montreal Canadiens sending Allen to the Devils has been fulfilled.

More NJHN: The Devils bury themselves against the Pittsburgh Penguins, fall short of a comeback victory after lacking discipline.

The Athletic ($): By the way, about Jake Allen, he’s a pending free agent this summer, and one of the few options that can be considered an “upgrade” on the market. Will New Jersey let him get that far? And what can he fetch in the open market?

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Boston Hockey Now: The early returns with Henri Jokiharju for the Boston Bruins have been encouraging for the Boston faithful. In Jokiharju’s case, he’s hoping it leads to a permanent stay via contract extension.

Colorado Hockey Now: Mikko Rantanen spoke to the Colorado Avalanche media for the first time since being traded over six weeks ago. His departure was complicated, but it seems it shouldn’t have been. That’s according to Rantanen, anyway.

Vegas Hockey Now: Bruce Cassidy was NOT happy with his team yesterday. The Vegas Golden Knights fell to the Buffalo Sabres in a very winnable game. In fact, he was so displeased, the Vegas head coach ripped into the Golden Knights, citing “a total lack of respect.”

Ottawa Hockey Now: Ex-Devils coach Travis Green very well may lead the Ottawa Senators to their first playoff appearance in eight seasons. Does he deserve Jack Adams consideration?
