The New Jersey Devils were off on Tuesday, yet, the off-day was kind to them. Not in the kick their feet up and relax kind of way, although I’m sure that’s true too. But, in the sense that the out-of-town scoreboard really worked out in their favor. After defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday, the New York Rangers fell in regulation on Tuesday. New York leaped Columbus in the standings and is the latest team chasing the Devils for third in the Metropolitan Division, however, the eight-point cushion remains intact.

And if the Devils were to happen to fall into the wild card, the Ottawa Senators would pose as a threat. However, they also fell in regulation to the Montreal Canadiens.

The only way it could have gone better for New Jersey would have been if the New York Islanders lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Instead, the Isles collected two points, but sit 10 behind the Devils in the standings. They’re an unlikely threat at this point of the season, but like the fly at the BBQ, they just won’t go away.

Anyway, to the news.

Let’s do that hockey.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The NHL announced on Tuesday that the Pittsburgh Penguins will play a pair of games against the Nashville Predators as part of the NHL’s Global Series in Sweden.

Sportsnet: *Record scratch* Well, this is a real sentence I never thought I’d have to type. President of the United States, Donald Trump, has had discussions with President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, about NHL players facing KHL players.

The NHL released a statement after hearing this news, explaining they cannot comment at this time as they were not a party involved in the discussion.

TSN: Much like how participating teams were mandated to name their first six players well ahead of the 4 Nations Face-Off, they will be doing the same for the 2026 Olympics, and we’ll find out who they are soon.
